Welcome
Dear friends & supporters
Last year as I was praying about what
we would be doing in 2008, my heart was inextricably
turned towards the need to reach children with the Gospel.
Even as I write this I am feeling quite emotional as
I think about how Jesus feels about the countless numbers
of children that will not have heard the Gospel and
are not likely to ever hear it, unless we make a concerted
effort.
The implications on the country, the
community, the church and the world are huge. However,
lets forget that for the moment and think about the
implications on the children who are growing up without
hope in their present and for their future.
Please join together and make this a
year of praying together for the children and planning
for outreach, both inside the church and outside. If
you haven’t thought of doing an outreach, then
plan that for an outreach before the end of the year.
Daphne Kirk quite rightly said “that if we want
to reach the nation, we have to reach the generations”.
Blessings – David Goodwin |

Training
Intensive 10-13 March 2008
A “big bang” to start
the year …
... be motivated & inspired for the work of the
ministry
David is back with us in March to bring
another chapter in our 4-day training series. This seminar
is eligible for credit towards a BCNZ Diploma. We have
3 more intensive weeks planned for 2008 so why not start
(or continue) the journey with us this March?
Developing Faith in Children
Helping children grow in faith during
the different ages and stages of their life. Children
develop intellectually, socially, morally and spiritually
as they pass through different ages and stages of their
lives. With each stage of life, there come new skills,
abilities and capacities to reason and understand. In
understanding this we need to be equipped to communicate
in a relevant way and help our children grow to reach
their potential as a Christian.
The course will include:
- What faith is;
- The progression of faith and spiritual
understanding through each age and stage of childhood
years;
- Child development;
- Laying a foundation of love and trust;
- Mental development;
- Spiritual awareness and issues;
- Adolescence;
- How faith is initiated; and How faith
can grow.
10-13 March - Three Kings Congregational
Church, Mt Roskill
9am-4:30pm daily at Three Kings Congregational
Church, 515 Mt Albert Road, Mt Roskill, Auckland.

SPEC
- A day long seminar in Safety & Protection and
Empowering Children
Put simply: if we protect our leaders
and the ministry we've been called to, we automatically
protect our children at the same time. Why wouldn't
everyone jump at this opportunity?
The seminar firstly highlights the issues
and needs associated with Safety and Protection programmes
for all those in children's ministry. There are clear
procedures that we all need to be aware of to protect
those working with children and the children themselves.
Then, we'll provide some guidance in how to help kids
handle some of the things that happen in their lives.
They'll be empowered when you can use stories and object
lessons to develop skills in the children; helping them
address issues in their lives in a meaningful way.
Hosting a SPEC seminar's easy. You just
need to organize a venue, morning and afternoon tea,
work with us to get seminar attendees and provide Barbara
Tod with accommodation. Due to some generous sponsorship,
our charges are minimal, just $10 per delegate irrespective
of the number attending .(Although you'd be doing everyone
a great service to involve as many children's workers
in your area as possible so Think Bigger than just your
church!).
Presented by Barbara Tod, we're scheduling
our 2008 programme and have got room for nine spots
and it will be FIRST UP, BEST DRESSED! Already we've
got one scheduled early in the year in Palmerston North.
If you don't know what the Safety and Protection Protocol
is where you're ministering, you need to, so don't delay
- check it out. If there isn't one, there surely needs
to be, so call Barbara Tod and make a booking. It's
that simple and that vital! Be a lifesaver - contact
barbaratod@kidsreach.org.nz or call 04 904 1217. |

... in review
KidsReachingKids 2007
What a start to my new position
at Kidsreach. I took over the management of KR NZ two
weeks before the KRK camps started.
All went well with a team of great volunteers and workers
helping, it all came together. Johnny Burns, a children’s
ministry musician came from Australia, David Goodwin,
was of course, the speaker and in Waikanae we had the
added bonus of Mr Squirt (Barry Newton) also from Australia
who “clowned” around and entertained us!
Workshops varied from prayer to balloon making, from
mime to object lessons. We had concerts, games, crafts
and, of course, camp activities ranging from go-carts
to horses and flying foxes.
Here are some benefits for you
… Why not come in 2008?
- A conference specifically for children where they
are ministered to by outstanding keynote speakers
and have a choice of workshops to attend.
- The opportunity to discover and develop their talents
and abilities.
Attend with your own church or outreach club children
therefore ensuring that what God does in the children
will continue on returning home.
- You can bring your whole group with a male and
female leader ratio of 1 to 6.
- You are able to spend time with your kids not busy
organising.
For those of you from smaller towns and churches this
is a great opportunity to have an experience of a
large camp with all the trappings!
- A conference for your children - without the need
to do the hard work!!
Put KRK Conference in the diary
and start fundraising. Make it a real team effort and
goal to be at KRK 2008. Remember to register early to
ensure your place.

To all providers of High Five Programs
I have been in touch with the Ministry
of Justice who have contracted 50 organisations to provide
a Parenting Through Separation course for parents. There
is a website that you can go to which gives the details
of the Course Providers in each area.
The Ministry is happy for us to give
brochures/details of the High Five Programs we run to
these providers. It is a good opportunity for us to
advertise with them that we're available to connect
with children who can benefit from our program. The
website is www.parenting-through-separation.net.nz
Also: the graphics for the stories in
the High Five program have been considerably revamped
and are available on CD now. They are much more interesting
for the children. The CDs are priced at $35 and there
are 6 stories. The video story remains the same at this
time.

New Resources - Hot Off The Press
The
Heart of the Father - Discovery Club #33
In 2007 we shared with children and leaders
alike, in many countries, the message of the Father's
Heart. It has been awesome to see children come to renew
their relationship with God based on the unconditional
love that he has for them.
In a nutshell, this subject is about
God love for children, no matter how they feel and no
matter what they have done, and that they can and will
experience God?s eternal love in a very personal and
real way.
Special $40
plus p+p with audio CD and words, and stickers. Save
$6.
The
World Needs Children's Ministry Leaders
A new leadership book by David Goodwin
written for Children's Ministry Leaders. This unique
leadership book had been a long time coming and is a
'must have' for everyone in children's ministry. It
is about leadership in the context of children's ministry.
It is written by a children's ministry leader, for children's
ministry leaders. It outlines principles and practical
applications that children's ministry leaders need to
know, through looking at the life of Moses.
Available from
20 Feb, $20 plus p+p.
Prayer
Map
Want to see an increase in prayer involvement
in your Children’s Ministry? Here is a practical
and novel way to involve your kids.
This is no ordinary map! They can be used as a banner
but are more practical than that.
The map is printed on wipeable vinyl
(same quality as our conference banners) and is 180x120cm.
You can lay it on the floor, have the children gather
around and pray.
The children stand on the place in NZ
they want to pray into. A child might stand on a place
to intercede for a person, a situation, or for that
area. This is a great tool that is novel and can be
made a lot of fun.
We used the map at KRK. It was great
to see and hear children pray for their nation, relatives,
and friends.

a NZ Prayer Map for $110 and receive DC#4 Prayer for
$20. Save $15. |

Mark Griffiths Curriculum
A whole year's worth of teaching
material for 5 to 12 year olds.
Fusion
Are you looking for material to use with
children who have little or no contact with the gospel?
Then this is the book for you! The curriculum is designed
to enable you to communicate with a generation that
desperately needs Jesus and in the words of Winkey Pratney
“He who learns to communicate to a generation
ultimately has the power to control that generation”.
Not just theory, but tried and true,
weeks in and weeks out by its author Mark Griffiths,
to provide 52 weeks of great inspiration for you. Get
your copy and win the battle that's raging for the lives
of countless children. Just $50 plus p+p.
Impact
This volume opens with the stark question:
“Can these bones live?” and the response
“Absolutely!” Surely, if God comes and breathes
life into the ideas, the lessons, you as the teacher
and the very being of the children you minister to each
week, there will be IMPACT! Why wait? Grab your copy
now - another great 52week resource for use with children
in all situations. Just $50 plus p+p.
Detonate
“v. to cause an explosive event”.
From Mark Griffiths: “There are three types of
people in our world: those who watch history taking
place, those who record history and the final category
- those who make history. At this point in time, our
churches need people who make things happen, those who
will be part of this explosive event that will once
again see thousands of boys and girls coming to know
Jesus.” Is this you? Just $50 plus p+p.
Grasped correctly this is not just a curriculum,
but a vision, a dangerous training manual to change
tomorrow - be challenged to become a hero to your kids,
that they may follow the gospel for all they are worth.

Sri Lanka Mission Project - already a hit!
A
four-week missions' project for children that could
be titled: Kids Can Do Missions. It is designed to create
in the children a strong belief in mission to give a
rewarding involvement in missions and to support Kidsreach
in Sri Lanka.
The Sri Lanka (Kids Can do Missions)
Project has a 'Great Commission' focus for teaching
children of Junior primary and Primary School age. Manual,
flashcards, master for children's activity books, CD
and Seed of Blood book. Cost $45.00 +p&p.
And ... From a
someone who’s already used it ... “Thank
you for your time and effort in preparing such wonderful
resources for us to use - we’ve just finished
the 4 week study and our children voted to send the
money we raised to you for the purpose of sponsoring
children to go to a Christmas party where they could
learn about Jesus. They really captured the vision of
Kidsreach and have learnt a lot about Sri Lanka on the
way. We will continue to pray for your ministry and
the work in Sri Lanka (the prayer mat was a big hit!)” |

News from Sri Lanka
Dear Friends in New Zealand
Greetings in Christ’s precious name!
Already one month in 2008 is gone, and
we experience the Grace of God. Although our country
is going through a very bad time as Christians we have
a hope in Christ for peaceful settlement and we take
every opportunity to work in the Lord’s vineyard.
I take this moment to thank all of you
who were with us during the last year and share the
joy, hope and love which we have in Christ with children
and the leaders.
Christmas season was a wonderful time
for us, because we were able to freely share with children
and adults the meaning of Christmas and the message
of love, joy, peace. We had one children’s camp
and five Christmas parties in different parts of Sri
Lanka. In each program the attendance was more than
100 kids. They had a wonderful time and responded to
the call for salvation. Not a single child went out
without having good lunch, tea and a gift. This time
we gave them a pencil case with stationery. Some children
got school uniforms too. On the 22nd of December we
went to an underprivileged village where there were
lots of children whose parents are very poor. We had
a wonderful time with them and gave each family a pack
of dry rations. We were able to help more than 23 families
to have a good meal at Christmas day.
I take this moment to thank all of you
who have supported us not only at Christmas time but
through out the last year, praying and helping in every
way to reach children and build the Kingdom of God.
Without you we would not have been able to accomplish
what God wants us to do for His Kingdom. This year also
we appeal for your fullest support to reach the goals,
which God has set before us. Together we will bring
smile to God’s face.
The churches in Sri Lanka are really in
need of curriculum for Sunday school children. There
is almost nothing in their own language [Sinhalese and
Tamil]. Without good teaching the children will never
have any foundation to build their lives. Our international
director Pastor David Goodwin provides the curriculum
available in the Kidsreach Sri Lanka office. Unfortunately
we are not able to use all these books as they are in
English. People are requesting us to translate and publish
the books for them. For this we need your prayers and
support.
This year our main goal is to train more
leaders to work among the children to help them reach
their full potential.
These are some of the things we are planning
for the coming three months.
- Feb 2 - Leaders training – Nuwara
Eliya
- Feb 4-8 - Holistic Child Development
for the leaders.
- Feb 14-18 - All Island Methodist Children’s
Leaders training in Colombo.
- Mar 3-7 -Teaching program at the Lanka
Bible College (Sinhala)
- Mar 17-21 – Teaching at Lanka
Bible College (Tamil Language)
- Mar 22-23 – Children’s
camp for All Island Foursquare Churches
- April - A series of Vocation Bible
Study programmes with the Methodist Churches of Sri
Lanka.
Once again thank you very much for your
partnership in this ministry amongst needy children.
God Bless you
Shanthi Dharmadasa
Kidsreach Sri Lanka
Child Sponsorship…
a Successful Conclusion!
Kidsreach Sri Lanka has great news. As
you will know following the Tsunami we instigated a
sponsorship programme for families that needed help.
The programme has been going for two years and we are
excited to tell you all that these families are now
independent. They have been re-housed and the children
are attending school.
This is an excerpt from Shanthi’s
letter to us
"You have been with us for the last
two years supporting without failing (the children)
to get out of misery… Thank you very much for
being with us and adding colour to the lives of these
little ones… After two years we can see the improvement
in their lives clearly.
… We believe that these two years of support have
been what was needed to help these children and families
re-establish their lives. You will be happy to know
that all our families have now been re-housed.
… Once again I thank you for your sacrificial
gifts to the Tsunami affected children."
Wow, what a blessing to be involved with
a ministry that meets practical needs and in doing so
extends the love of Christ. It reminds me of Jesus saying
to the disciples, “Let the children come to me
and do not stop them...” Matt.19:14. We must remember
to meet the practical needs of families, as, if they
are sick, hungry or hurting how can they hear the message
we bring? Let us not hold them back both here at home
and overseas. Let’s continue to give of our time,
effort and finances to reach out.
Thank you for continuing to empower the
Sri Lanka Branch of Kidsreach to bring children and
their families to Jesus as they meet practical and spiritual
needs of families in Sri Lanka. Read Shanti’s
report for a further update of the work in Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka Trip
Would you like to do a Children's Ministry
trip to Sri Lanka in 2008? Proposed dates are: 27 July
to 13 August. Travel, living and ministry costs will
be about $3200 per person.
Contact David to register your interest. davidgoodwin@kidsreach.org.nz
Support for Sri Lanka
Keep Kidsreach Sri Lanka from Becoming
Homeless.
Once every two years we need to pay rent
on the property in Sri Lanka which is our base The House
of Hope. The landlord has agreed to let us rent the
property for another two years but we are required to
pay in advance. We need to raise $3200 by the end of
February. Can you help us?
Your gift is appreciated and valued.
We thank you on behalf of the children of Sri Lanka.
Tsunami Child Sponsorship Ends - one
last gift!
Shanthi wants to give the children and
their families one last gift as the sponsorship programme
ends. This will help to pay for school books and uniforms
as the children return to school. Jesus asks us to give
to the poor and I have personally seen what a difference
your gifts make to people like this.
If you would like to give a final donation
towards the Sponsored children's families please fill
in this response slip and send it to Kidsreach Child
Sponsorship, PO Box 305, Waikanae.
Your gift is appreciated and valued.
We thank you on behalf of our sponsored children and
families.
Resource Translation - A lasting Investment.
What a great project to give to. To translate
one of our manuals into a Tamil or Sinhalese will cost
about NZ$120. To then print 250 of them will cost about
NZ$300. These manuals are a wonderful discipleship tool
for the Sri Lankan Church. Disciple the children and
we disciple a nation. Why not sponsor a book? That's
an investment that will reap a reward!
Your gift is appreciated and valued.
We thank you on behalf of the church of Sri Lanka.
If you like to assist with any of the
above contact Lynette Collis (lynettecollis@kidsreach.org.nz
), Phone or Fax 04 904 1217 or

Developing
Faith in Children
The majority of those who are in children’s
ministry have not been trained in child development.
Even fewer have been trained in faith development ages
and stages.
The effectiveness of our ministry to
children will ultimately be measured by how much we
have we assisted children to grow in their understanding
of and relationship with Jesus Christ, and through this
to grow to their full potential as a person and as a
Christian.
This manual will help provide you with
a strategy to help you help children to pray, develop
their gifts, grow in understanding of the word of God
and witness in each age and stage of their life. This
applies if they are five years old, seven years old,
or ten years old.
This happens through systematic teaching, encouraging,
and cultivating faith appropriate to their child developmental
stages.
Attending the 4 day Intensive Seminar
in March? This is an essential text and one you will
appreciate in the future!

Kidsreach 52 Series
Enough for one a week
52
Craft Ideas - By David Goodwin
This book is full of simple craft ideas
that you can do without spending a fortune. Most kids
love doing craft but most craft ideas are so complicated
and expensive, they are often avoided by leaders. You
will find in this book that some of the best craft projects
are done with simple items that are cheap and easily
available.
52
Games and Activities - By David Goodwin
Games give an opportunity for the children
to have fun, let off excess energy & learn listening
and co-operative skills. They’re also an essential
part of every kids ministry program. Every one of the
games in this book are easy to do & much loved by
the kids. There are a lot more than 52 games as some
of the pages have a group of games with a similar theme.

Friends of KidsReach
Some of you would have heard the term
“Friends of Kidsreach” but do not know what
it means and how you can benefit.
Let me explain what being a Friend of
Kidsreach is.
Of course, you are all our friends and
we consider you so, but if you become a financial supporter
of the work then there are some benefits for you. This
is not just a way of Kidsreach receiving support but
also a way for you to save some money. As a registered
charity then any funds given for work within NZ can
be issued with a donations tax receipt. For a monthly
gift you also receive a discount on product and on the
national conference fee. When you use our materials
and you come to conference, you save money!
A lot of our work is done behind the
scenes with an office to run, office staff to pay, production
and printing costs and of course, mail outs. We do have
an army of wonderful volunteers to help us and without
them we could not do what we do but there are still
costs.
Please consider prayerfully becoming
a “Friend”. We truly value the support we
receive and want to thank all of you who do give.

Bequests
Each of us finds our own way to make
or leave our mark on the world. At Kidsreach, we are
all committed to making a difference for children's
lives, in this world and forever.
One very special way of doing this beyond
even your own lifetime is by making a bequest (a gift
left in your will). Choosing to leave a bequest to Kidsreach
would ensure that the work we are engaged in can continue
to grow beyond our dreams and have a lasting impact
both in NZ and overseas.
If you would like to make sure Kidsreach
continues to be a ministry of encouragement and training
to children's workers and children, you can make a gift
in the form of a bequest in your will. Your lawyer can
advise you, or please contact us for more information
at lynettecollis@kidsreach.org.nz. |

Sponsors
Our work would not be possible without
the support of a few key corporate donors; Amnico
Foundation, KingGrapes
and GardenFX.
Thanks also to the Waikanae Lions Club.
