Training Intensive on Developing Faith in Children

This course examines the Faith Development Stages in Children and how to nurture faith in children through their different development and spiritual stages.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

On successful completion of this module, the student will be able to:

  • Define the nature of faith and its importance to the total development of the individual child;
  • Understand faith development in the different stages of a child’s spiritual journey;
  • Observe the responses of children in their Children’s Ministry Programs for Piaget’s developmental stages; and
  • Understand the work of the Holy Spirit in childhood faith development.

CONTENT

The module also explores what faith is and the progression of faith and spiritual understanding through childhood years: how faith is initiated; Piaget’s developmental stages; the role of the Holy Spirit in faith development; the teacher as a facilitator of faith development in children; foundations for future faith; teaching children to pray; baptism of the Holy Spirit; baptism in water; preparing children for Communion.

Most or all of the following topics will be addressed:

  • Child Development Looking At Piaget, Erikson and Maslow.
  • The Different Stages Of A Child’s Spiritual Journey:

    • Ages 3 to 5: A Time Of Rapid Mental Development
    • Ages 5 to 7 Junior Primary: Increasing Spiritual Awareness
    • Ages 7 to 10 – Primary Digging Deeper With Spiritual Issues
    • Ages 11 to 14 - Pre-Adolescence Big Changes!
    • Ages 12 to 16 - The Young Adolescent Out Of Childhood.
  • The Teacher As A Facilitator Of Faith Development In Children
  • The Role of the Holy Spirit in Faith Development.
  • Foundations for Future Faith.
    • Teaching Children To Pray
    • Teaching Children How To Live Their Faith
    • Teaching Children Doctrine
  • Significant Events in a Child’s Christian Journey
    • Baptism In Water
